6 Toy Story Halloween Costume Ideas You May Not Have Thought Of

This year one of the block buster movies was Pixar’s Toy Story 3. The long awaiting third movie in the franchise was an instant hit at the box office grossing more than almost all other films and beat only by Alice in Wonderland.

This Halloween most kids will be dressed up as either Woody, Buzz or Jessie but if you want to be unique dress as up one of the 6 toys below as all three of them have costumes available for purchase.

Rex – The fearsome dinosaur who thinks he is not just that scary enough. The costume includes a green shirt, gloves, the telltale dinosaur tail, and a headpiece. It comes in children and adult sizes.

Mr. Potato Head – The sarcastic, potato-shaped toy whose parts are constantly broken away from his main body by some weird twist of fate. A licensed costume is also available for Mrs. Potato Head which is perfect for a couple costume or a costume for a brother and sister.

Hamm – The Piggy Bank known for his witticisms. Hamm’s costume is available for little girls and includes a pink piggy bank overall dress packed with foam on the inside and a long-sleeved black shirt. This is a really cute costume that is instantly recognizable by others.

The Little Green Men – Three, three-eyed aliens in blue jumpsuits. You can ask two of your friends to go with you or find a big group of people to dress up, add some toy guns and you’ll be the talk of the neighborhood.

Bo Peep – Girls can dress up as this little sheep herder who is by far the cutest toy in the toy box with her little pink and blue dress, bonnet, hat and staff.

Alien – Last but not least is the cute alien. These costumes are great and really attract attention with the green 3 eyed heads. Remember to follow the Claw… it is your Leader!

So don’t go with the same old Buzz, Woody and Jessie costume, stand out, be different and choose Rex, Mr and Mrs Potato Head, Little Green Men, Bo Peep or Alien costumes instead!

Toy Story 3 Costumes and How to Have a Toy Story 3 Party

Dressing up in Toy Story 3 Halloween costumes is tons of fun for the whole family but you can wear your Toy Story 3 Costumes more than once a year. Having a Toy Story 3 party is very popular too. Kids love it for birthdays or sleepovers or any time as an excuse to get together and watch any of the movies.

It can be even more fun for the kids if the adults in the family are wearing their Toy Story 3 Costumes too. Kids really get a kick out of mom and dad dressing up as one of Andy’s toys and acting like a kid too. In fact, you will make a name for yourself as the cool mom and dad. Unless they are teenagers in which case nothing will make you cool. Just kidding!

Toy Story Party Supplies are readily accessible and make things easier but you can make some of your own too. Here are a few ideas to get you started.

Invitations:

You can purchase invitations or you can make your own. Find some images of Buzz, Woody or any of Andy’s toys and save them on your computer. You can either print them out or integrate them into a simple card making software product. Printing them out in color then attaching them to a heavier weight paper is really the easiest way in my opinion and it also gets the kids involved in the project.

Another good option is to visit the scrapbooking section of your local hobby store. There you will find themed papers and stickers you can use for this project as well as for party favors.

Depending on the age of the guests let parents know if they are encouraged to stay with their children. Parents of very young kids won’t want to leave them and parents of teens or pre-teens will of course want to check with you on the details especially if it’s a sleepover.

Decorations:

Keep in the mind the predominant color scheme for these movies and related products is red, yellow and blue. These bright primary colors are eye catching for the youngest, cheer up the rest of us and make it easy to find party supplies. Your local dollar store will have balloons, streamers, tablecloths and other supplies in these primary colors. You can personalize these in several ways. You can use stickers, use cutouts from the images you print out, and use markers to draw images on the balloons. Once you get going, you’ll find all kinds of other ideas coming to you.

Decorate the party area and table with some toys to represent Andy’s toys in the movie. Barbie and Ken, dinosaur toys, piggy banks, green army men, aliens, and slinkies are good choices. Check out the Disney site family.go.com. They have a post called Disney-Pixar Printable: Toy Story 3D Buzz with a really cool template for printing out a foldable Buzz 3D Decoration.

Arrival:

As your guests arrive, furnish them with a goodie bag you’ve purchased or made.

Andy’s Toys Identity

Ahead of time, write down the names of the characters on name tags. Get the kind that pin on, not stick on, because you are going to have them change identities during the party. Put the name tags into a cowboy hat and have everyone draw from the hat as they arrive. Of course you can’t be expected to provide everyone one with a costume, but supply some simple accessory that signifies what character they are playing. A brown cowboy hat for woody for instance. A red cowgirl hat for Jessie, some wiggly antennae for alien, a Barbie tiara for Barbie, a toy army helmet, a space insignia for Buzz are a few ideas.

For the rest of the party have everyone refer to that guest using their character name. A couple of times during the party announce an “Andy’s toys meeting”. Have everyone put the name tags back into the hat and change identity. Now they are a completely different character.

Food:

Serve some traditional foods like hot dogs but get some green “alien” ketchup.

You can find a Toy Story cake pan at the party page of Toy Story 3 Costumes as well as cake toppers. If the party is all girls, a Barbie cake would work. You can always bake or buy a regular cake and decorate it with small plastic toys representing the characters.

Get a blank pizza box and decorate it as Pizza Planet, Andy’s favorite pizza place and use this for your own pizza.

Make some green, red and yellow popcorn balls.

Games:

Pin the Hat on Woody

Purchase or draw a picture of Woody on a piece of cardboard or poster board. If you are using a picture that is on your computer you can use it as a guide or enlarge the image and print it out onto several sheets of paper. Your kids will think of this as putting together a puzzle.

Cut out cowboy hat shapes from brown paper or have the kids color them brown. Before playing the game, attach double sided tape. Tip: With very young children its best not to blindfold them. They have a tendency to think we have disappeared!

Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head

Give everyone a potato shaped piece of construction paper along with some stickers or cut outs for body parts. They can use a glue stick to create their own Mr. and Mrs. Potato heads to take home with them.

If you happen to have a Mr. Potato head set, let everyone take turns creating a Mr. or Mrs. Potato Head with a twist. Depending on age of course, you can blindfold the guest, set a timer for about 30 to 60 seconds and see how well each one did on getting the body parts in the right place. Have fun while watching them attach an arm where the nose should be.

Green Army Men Game

You can usually find bags of these at the local dollar store or discount store or online. Before the party hide the green army men around the house. Provide a small bag and ask the guests to find as many as they can, just like with an Easter egg hunt.

Watching the Movies

Go to a site like IMBD where you can find quotes from the movies. Of course the most famous is Buzz saying “To infinity and beyond”. Make a game sheet, typing or writing out with several of the quotes. The object of the game is to mark down on their sheets each time they hear the quote. It may only be said once in the movie and that’s fine. It’s fun and keeps them focused on the movie.

So be sure to save your Toy Story 3 Costumes. You’re going to need them to be the coolest parents on the block when you throw a Toy Story 3 party.

Toy Story Halloween Costume – Buying Tips and Helpful Hints

Ok, I admit it, I borrowed my granddaughter one hot summer afternoon so I could get away with seeing the latest Toy Story Movie, Toy Story 3. If you haven’t yet seen the movie, I highly recommend it. Borrow a kid if you have to, or rent the DVD and watch it at home with your kids and grandkids (or even alone!).

Toy Story 3 is one movie that’s just as enjoyable to adults as it is children. It’s also one of those rare movies where the sequels are just as good as the original. In fact, the release of Toy Story 3 has sparked new interest in the various Toy Story characters as Halloween costumes.

If you’re looking for a Toy Story Halloween Costume this year, you’ve got lots of fantastic choices – Buzz Lightyear, Woody, Jessie, Mr. and Mrs. Potatohead, Rex the dinosaur, Hamm the piggy bank, Alien Men, Green Army Men, and even Little Bo Peep!

Here are some Buying Tips and Helpful Hints for picking out just the right costume for you.

Now, there are several factors to consider when you begin shopping for your costume. First you will need to decide which character you’re interested in, so I have listed your choices below:

Buzz Lightyear Costume:

Not too surprisingly, the most popular choice for men and boys is Buzz Lightyear. The Buzz Lightyear costume is available in adult, child, and toddler, as well as chubby for boys and plus size for men. The standard costume comes with a jumpsuit and headpiece. There are various deluxe versions that come with the jetpack, gloves and leg guards. You can also buy those and other accessories separately, including a space helmet.

Woody Costume:

The second most popular choice for men and boys in the Toy Story Halloween costume line is the Woody sheriff costume. Woody is the classic cowboy but with a distinctive look that only a Sheriff can have! The official costume comes in adults, child and toddlers. The standard version comes with the detailed jumpsuit and cowboy hat, and the deluxe versions add some extra details. Here’s a neat idea: add a chord to your back that people can pull to make Woody talk!

Jessie Costume:

Jessie, the quintessential cowgirl, is the most popular choice for women and girls. Jessie and Woody also make a great couple’s costume idea. The Jessie costume includes bodysuit and red cowboy hat, and some versions come with the hair bows. To complete the outfit, add a lasso, some cowgirl boots, and maybe even a red wig. The costume is available for both adults and children.

Alien Men Costume:

New this year, 3 eyes and all! The Alien Men (think…the Claw) saved the day in Toy Story 3, so they jumped up a notch in popularity and now have an official costume! Available in child and toddler sizes, or an adult headpiece.

Green Army Man Costume:

Being a Green Army Man is too cool because you get to paint your face and hands green! The official costume comes in adult and child sizes, and comes with jumpsuit, helmet, hood and boot covers.

Rex the Dinosaur Costume:

Rex, everybody’s favorite lovable dinosaur, comes with shirt, gloves, tail and headpiece. Adults can get just the headpiece, and then paint their hands green or get some green gloves.

Mr. and Mrs. Potatohead Costume:

New this year, these spud costumes are just awesome! Get the Mr. and Mrs. Potatohead costumes together for the perfect couples Halloween costume for adults as well as children and toddlers!

Hamm the Pig Costume:

Finally the good folks who design costumes have released a Hamm costume to represent all those pink piggy banks from long ago! This outfit is perfect for girls since it’s pink, but since Hamm was a male in the movie, it’s appropriate for little boys as well.

Little Bo Peep Costume:

Bo Peep is just so frilly and precious, and little girls will love dressing up as her. The costume includes dress, bloomers, hat and even the staff. Match Bo Peep up with either Woody or Hamm for the perfect twosome!

Ok, now that you know your Toy Story Halloween Costume choices, here is another major decision you need to make, if you haven’t done so already.

Should You Buy Your Toy Story Costume Offline or Online?

Well, speaking for myself, I already purchase most items online, including Halloween Costumes. It’s just so much easier to shop online, and the choices are so much more plentiful. The thought of trudging through the stores looking for the right costume makes my skin crawl!

Let’s face it, if you go to your local department store looking for just the right costume, there’s a very good chance that you won’t find just what you are looking for. And, even if you do find that the store carries your favorite character, there’s a good chance they won’t have the size you need.

You might be looking for an Adult Size costume and find mostly Child Size costumes in the brick and mortar stores. Or you might be looking for Newborn, Toddler or even Plus Size. Your chances of finding all of the various sizes is much better if you do your shopping online.

In fact, when it comes to looking for a Toy Story Halloween Costume, you will probably have a hard time finding anything other than Child Size in most offline retail stores. I know because I have looked around a little myself just to see what is available.

Of course, some of the larger cities now have brick & mortar Halloween stores. In my own city, there are two Halloween stores that both opened just recently. That’s something you didn’t even see just a couple of years ago…that’s how popular Halloween is these days! So, if you live in a big city, you could do a search online, or ask around to see if there are any such stores nearby.

Even so, you will still be hard-pressed to find a bigger, better selection of the Toy Story Halloween Costume line in any brick and mortar store than you will find online. That’s because when you make your purchase online, your costume is coming directly from a huge warehouse where they can store millions of costumes, as opposed to a retail store where they only have a certain amount of space to display and store Halloween costumes.

Here’s a comparison between shopping offline and online:

Advantages of Shopping Offline:

You can see and feel the costume

You may be able to try on the costume

May be easier (or seem to be easier) to return

Great for last-minute purchases

Advantages of Shopping Online:

You get to avoid the crowds and checkout lines

No using your gas or searching for a parking space

You can shop any hour of the day you choose

Much easier to find exactly what you are looking for

Huge selection of the various Toy Story characters

Many different sizes to choose from

Actually it’s very easy to return online purchases

Depending on where you live, there may be no sales tax

Overnight delivery is often available

Many online stores now also have a rating system where they show comments left by other shoppers. This gives you the chance to see if other people were satisfied with their purchase, and they will many times comment on the quality (or lack thereof) of the item you’re interested in buying.

This will help you determine whether or not the costume is well made, etc., and is a HUGE plus when shopping online. In fact, it’s one of the things I look for when I shop online, and you should too.
